J.C. Somers Vintner represents the next evolution in the lifelong winemaking journey of Jay Somers and his wife and partner, Ronda Newell-Somers.
After building and establishing the respected J. Christopher label over nearly three decades, Jay and Ronda now produce limited quantities of terroir-driven wines sourced from some of the finest vineyard sites in Oregon’s Willamette Valley.

Jay Christopher Somers
A native Oregonian, Jay Somers has spent his career immersed in the region’s wine industry, working alongside some of its most influential figures. Guided early by mentor John Paul of Cameron Winery and shaped by experiences at Adelsheim Vineyard and Dry River in New Zealand, Jay developed a philosophy grounded in patience, restraint, and respect. His approach draws inspiration from the great wines of the Old World, emphasizing balance, texture, length, and nuance over power. Rather than pursuing overt ripeness or intensity, Jay seeks to create wines that unfold gracefully to reveal complexity and character.

Ronda Newell-Somers
Ronda Newell-Somers has been an integral part of the journey since the beginning, working alongside Jay since 2001 and contributing to every aspect of the business, from harvest and cellar work to sales, marketing, and hospitality. A devoted fan of Nebbiolo, Champagne, and Burgundy, Ronda shares Jay’s love of wine and music, along with an appreciation for fashion and holistic wellness. Together, they have cultivated enduring friendships with Willamette Valley growers, allowing them access to exceptional fruit.

Beyond wine, the couple’s lives are shaped by a love of music and exploring Oregon forests with their beloved German Shepherds, who have always been an important part of Jay and Ronda’s lives. Their loyalty, honesty, joy, and wholehearted approach to each day have shaped the way the couple sees the world… and to pay attention to what matters most.
Over the years, Saskia, Tache, Bella, Nina, Aja, Luna, and Reyna have each brought their own spirit and adventure to the family. Today, Luna and Reyna remain enthusiastic companions, especially on walks through the forest.
